Meet the Doctors at Retina Group of Florida

Dr. Lawrence S. Halperin brings more than 17 years of experience as a retina-vitreous specialist to Retina Group of Florida. He has been honored as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Halperin is a trustee of the National Foundation for Fighting Blindness and the local Lighthouse of Broward County. He is the founder of FRAME, a national group of retinal specialists.

 

Dr. Halperin is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tufts University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed an internship at Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Barnes Hospital/Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. He received additional training as a Fellow in Retina and Vitreous Surgery and Disease at Barnes Hospital with the Retina Consultants (now Barnes Retina Institute). While there, he was awarded the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

 

Dr. Halperin is a Voluntary Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Science of Florida Atlantic University, in addition to his full-time medical practice. He has served as principal investigator in more than two dozen clinical research trials, presented at medical conferences throughout the nation, and published articles on various retinal diseases in medical journals.

 

Dr. Halperin has served as Chief of Ophthalmology at North Ridge Medical Center. He is an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and a reviewer for several major ophthalmology medical journals. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists (where he serves on several important committees), Fort Lauderdale Surgical Society, and is a Past President of the Palm Beach and Broward County Ophthalmological Societies.

 

Dr. Halperin is very active in the community and serves as Chairman of the Maimonides Society of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. He has been honored on two occasions by the State of Israel Bonds.
