Barry S. Taney, MDDr. Barry S. Taney is a highly regarded vitreo-retinal specialist with more than 25 years of experience with Retina Group of Florida. He has been named one of the Best Doctors in America, was chosen for How to Find the Best Doctors in Florida by Castle Connolly Medical, recognized as one of the Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumer Research Council of America, as well as, one of the Best Doctors in South Florida by the New York Times. Dr. Taney received his undergraduate training at Brown University in Rhode Island, where he was elected to the Society of Sigma Xi, the International Honor Society of Science and Engineering. He earned his Medical Degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed an internship at Hartford Hospital. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati and received additional training as a Fellow in Retinal and Vitreous Surgery and Disease at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. Dr. Taney is Board-Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Taney is a Volunteer Assistant Professor of Clinical Biomedical Sciences in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Florida International University College of Medicine, as well as, Voluntary Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. He has been a clinical investigator in many pivotal national clinical trials and has made presentations at national medical meetings of the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology (ARVO), Macula Society, and American College of Eye Surgeons. His articles are published in numerous medical journals. Dr. Taney is a Past President of the Broward County Ophthalmology Society, and the Caducean Society of Greater Fort Lauderdale. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Palm Beach and Broward County Ophthalmology Societies. He is fluent in Spanish. His other interests include golf, photography and boating.
