Intravitreal injection
Intravitreal injection refers to placement of medicine directly into the gel that fills the inside of the eye. This is a very common form of treatment administration for retinal diseases, especially for wet macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, and diabetic eye disease. The procedure is done in the office. First the eye is anesthetized and sterilized with eye drops, and then a very small needle is used to deliver the medicine internally through the white part of the eye.
