HIV Infection and the Eye

About 20% of people with HIV develop an infection that can threaten vision. The most common ocular infection for people with HIV is Cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV may not cause noticeable symptoms, but it can lead to permanent vision loss. People with HIV may also experience dry, red, itchy eyes or difficulty focusing when reading.

HIV can lead to a variety of eye conditions, some which are difficult to differentiate. The specialists at Retina Group of Florida are familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of such eye conditions. We will work closely with your doctor to provide you with the best treatment possible.
